Crypto Miners Max Out Grid in Washington State
Cryptocurrency miners have discovered that some areas of the country are better for mining than others. While the national average of price per kilowatt is around 7 cents, the price in Washington state is 4 cents. One county in particular is scrambling to keep pace with the massive influx of miners and their electrical requirements.
Port of Douglas County economic development manager Ron Cridlebaugh told CNBC the county is expanding to 100,000 kilowatts (100 megawatts) in its data centers to meet high demand. "Our infrastructure is actually being put to the test. We're full. It's going to take some time to catch up because growth has been so quick."
